Originally built in the 18th century and later transformed into one of London’s most prestigious private clubs, the venue is known for its magnificent neoclassical interiors and invitation-only atmosphere.

Steeped in history and aesthetically stunning, with rooms full of splendour, rich heritage and sophistication, it’s almost impossible to imagine a more mesmerising venue than this exclusive event establishment for your unforgettable big day.

From licensed rooms for civil ceremonies to the airy al fresco courtyard, this romantic venue radiates sensational spaces for your wedding breakfast, evening party and more, along with coveted accommodation for you and your guests on site.

As one of the most exclusive and traditional private members' clubs in London, The Lansdowne is, of course, celebrity endorsed.

Follow in the footsteps of famous faces who have flocked to this 18th-century Mayfair mansion for its fashionable and lively social scene.

From Rainier III, Prince of Monaco and legendary actress Grace Kelly to Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal and fashion designer Paul Smith, high-profile names aplenty have passed through The Lansdowne’s discreet doors.

The Club also counts literary icon Charles Dickens and Lord Byron’s biographer Thomas Moore among its past visitors.

Alongside its glittering celebrity guestbook, going back to the golden age of style and modish gatherings, many momentous moments have taken place within these historic walls…

As a quiet backdrop to diplomacy well into the 20th century, The Lansdowne’s legacy even includes playing a role in the birth of the United States.

Although the club opened in 1935, The Lansdown’s history dates back to 1763. Beneath the listed building lie the remnants of the original Lansdowne House, designed by Robert Adam and commissioned for John Stuart, the 3rd Earl of Bute and the then British Prime Minister.

Lansdowne House became the London residence of a subsequent Prime Minister, William Petty – the 1st Marquess of Lansdowne, better known as Lord Shelburne.

Lord Shelburne reportedly negotiated the Treaty of Paris with America here in 1782, leading to one of the defining moments in US history, with his friend, Benjamin Franklin, the chief American signatory. Negotiations between the pair are said to have taken place in what is now the Round Room Bar, the circular design of which is even rumoured to have inspired the Oval Office.

Between 1902-1904, the fifth Lansdowne Marquess, as Foreign Secretary, negotiated the Anglo-Japanese Treaty and the Entente Cordiale at the Club.

While in 1935, The Lansdowne opened as London’s first club to admit men and women on equal terms – a revolutionary principle at the time which remains central to the club’s identity today.

In the roaring 20s, the building was home to Harry Gordon Selfridge, founder of the famous Selfridges department store nearby, who hosted many a legendary and lively Mayfair party here.

Some of The Lansdowne’s rooms were SO impressive they have even been relocated and recreated over the pond. In 1931, Lansdowne House was radically restructured, seeing the First Drawing Room and Great Eating Room dismantled and shipped to America, where the rooms were reassembled for permanent display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Museum of Art in Philadelphia.

Lansdowne House was then re-imagined as a leading private Members’ Club, welcoming both men and women with equal status from the outset, with that sociable spirit still enduring today.

In 1970, The Lansdowne’s architectural significance was formally recognised with Grade II-listed status, followed by a millennium refurbishment sensitively balancing history with modern requirements.

Our VIP preview offered a glimpse into fairytale weddings at The Lansdowne Club, where fabulous candlelit celebrations unfold beneath ornate ceilings in what feels like a deeply personal setting.

This private event viewing offered a rare opportunity to experience one of Mayfair’s most magical wedding venues at its very best, opening its doors exclusively for a day to showcase its wonderful weddings offering at its finest.

The lavish Lansdowne Club is a place where past and present sit seamlessly side by side. Traditional but quietly evolving, Georgian elegance sits serenely alongside bold Art Deco, whilst this top townhouse presents contemporary amenities aplenty to tempt even the most discerning of modern brides.

With its discreet entrance, quietly hidden away on Fitzmaurice Place and standing at the corner of London’s famous Berkeley Square, crossing the threshold of The Lansdowne Club makes for a momentous occasion.

A welcoming environment awaits as we walk into an immersive showcase of wonder. Soaking up the heritage that surrounds the capital’s historic Club, portraits of our late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip adorning the walls, we take in the venue’s timeless appeal after making friends with the Club’s resident cats, Harry and Rose, named after Mr Selfridge and his wife, Rosalie.

The Lansdowne Club is famous for its fencing and, established in 1935 by members of the Royal Automobile Club, the Salle d’Armes (the only private members’ club in London to boast one) is still in active use today. The crisp, sharp sounds of sword combat we hear echoing through the historic halls are charmingly in keeping with the Club’s character and heritage.

Weddings at The Lansdowne are a spectacle for all the senses.

Unostentatious, this is the perfect place for a serene setting for both your ceremony and celebrations.

We were welcomed at this exceptional wedding location by smart waiters serving us Champagne with a smile, before being blown away by The Ballroom, the venue’s most magnificent space to behold.

The intimate Wedding Breakfast showcase brings this sensational to life through a carefully curated afternoon of candlelit fabulous food, design and amazing ambiance. Recently restored and bursting with grandeur, this stately space truly impresses.

Originally designed by Robert Adam – the British architect who pioneered neoclassicism – the Grade II*-listed Ballroom boasts a beautiful, barrelled ceiling and a magical mix of quintessential English charm and alluring luxury.

The epitome of breathtaking grandeur, with ambient lighting to boot, The Ballroom accommodates up to 190 guests and is licensed to host civil ceremonies in a spellbinding setting for once-in-a-lifetime memories you will treasure forever.

Stepping inside this very special space, we are met with the musical musings of a live harpist in a backdrop of astounding creative artistry.

Candlelit tables are immaculately laid with our place names attached to fresh roses, bespoke floral installations from Petal To The Metal Flowers, with considerate styling details, stylish décor and carefully executed finishing touches.

There’s a dazzling Champagne tower plus, of course, a showstopping cake, this one courtesy of Erzulie Cakes by Nina K.

Luxury gifting stands from a few of The Lansdowne Club’s high-end partners showcase the premium products they supply for the Club’s guests.

A Jo Loves fragrance bar features not just the brand’s phenomenal perfume, but also a delectable Pomelo Spritz inspired by their signature scent, while experts from Elemis skincare show us their latest nature-inspired products and TASAKI, renowned for their superior pearls and diamonds, display sparkling bridal jewellery.

Designed for unforgettable love stories, thoughtful touches throughout transform the entire event into pure wedding inspiration for brides and grooms.

Adding a touch of theatre to our exclusive gathering, the Events & Entertainment team is treated to a demo of sabrage – a dramatic, ceremonial technique for opening bottles of Champagne with a sword or sabre.

A highlight of our afternoon, we watch on in awe as the General Manager (who bears a striking resemblance to Hugh Bonneville of ‘Downton Abbey’ fame!) cleanly pops open the bubbly in one clean sweep with style and panache – a truly unforgettable moment which adds an element of theatrical elegance to our experience.

Proud to be a member of the Confrérie du Sabre d’Or UK and Ireland – a global society dedicated to the art of sabrage and the enjoyment of Champagne – The Lansdowne Club is a recognised caveaux (venue with a formal affiliation) with licensed Maître-Sabreurs who can open bottles with dramatic flair, cleanly popping the cork to mark the start of a special celebration.

If you’re looking for something unique, this rare and noble art form offering a dramatic display will certainly add surprise to your special day, ensuring your guests are wowed!

The fizz flows before we take to our seats at stunningly decorated wedding breakfast tables, where our incredible showcase experience includes a carefully curated menu of delicious delights for us to sample.

With fabulous food central to every celebration at The Lansdowne Club, expert wedding planning here is complemented by outstanding catering, with menus by Executive Head Chef, Henry Brosi, formerly of The Dorchester.

Beautifully blending neoclassical grandeur with refined Art Deco elegance, with each room imbued with elegance and bursting with character, the various wedding spaces all carry their own sense of occasion.

Choose the grand, neoclassical Ballroom for large-scale celebrations or select the quiet elegance of the Drawing Room, Courtyard or The Lansdowne’s other spaces for smaller events.

An entrancing setting for the most unforgettable day, The Lansdowne Club’s legendary Ballroom is the ultimate, unforgettable venue for exchanging vows, memorable speeches and first dances in front of almost 200 guests, featuring ornate ceilings and minstrel galleries.

Overlooking The Courtyard, the adjoining Long Gallery, home to a magnificent grand piano, lends an idyllic setting for arrival drinks.

Featuring intricate and ornate Robert Adam architecture and an atmospheric working fireplace, the former Drawing Room – now The Adam Room – retains the unreserved splendour of its Georgian origins and comes complete with an eye-catching chandelier.

Soft pastel colours plus an arresting, fresco-adorned ceiling combine to give the elegant 18th-century Adam Room an unreserved air of splendour.

Also licensed for civil ceremonies, this romantic setting will enchant you and your guests on your special day and can accommodate up to 80 guests.

The gateway to the Club, Crush Hall creates a stunning backdrop for cake-cutting ceremonies and larger gatherings.

Also known as the Blue Room, with its original 18th-century features, luxurious wall coverings, mahogany doors and antique furniture, the remaining Robert Adam plasterwork detailing can still be seen in the friezes and ceiling, complete with shimmering chandelier.

For more intimate, boutique celebrations, the Shelburne Room can host 20-50 guests in an ornate space guaranteeing photographs you will cherish forever.

Polished and sophisticated, The Findlay private dining room provides a beautiful backdrop for a candlelit dinner with loved ones. Oozing a charming ambience, it’s ideal for more intimate wedding celebrations or pre-wedding dinner gatherings for up to 18 guests.

While perfect for engagement dinners or post-civil ceremony meals, providing exclusivity and refinement, The Library by Henry Brosi offers an elevated private dining experience for an intimate wedding party of up to 12 people.

Rare for the area, The Club also benefits from its own private landscaped courtyard, offering a hidden gem in the heart of London’s West End. The Courtyard makes for a stunning Champagne reception setting in which to toast the bride and groom, along with those all-important wedding pics!

This gorgeous exterior space also comes complete with a retractable roof, making it a year-round alfresco room providing picturesque surroundings where you can also hold an outdoor ceremony.

Just-spliced couples enjoy a complimentary bridal suite with the Club’s wedding packages, including a bottle of Champagne to celebrate their first special night as newlyweds.
